Newbie Guide Version 2.0
-------------------------------- THE APPLICATIONS
PPLIVE
PPLive
is the must have application, the widest choice of channels & fairly easy to use. As of writing of this article the latest
version is 1.0.9.6. PPlive only within the last few weeks upgraded it's software in a big way, if your using the old 1.0.7.x
version we recommend you upgrade, get it here:
PPlive Download
Once you have downloaded and installed the programme (installation is simple and an English interface is offered,)
With the latest version you have two main programs, the PPLive Player, which is just a skinned version of media player which
you can use to play music or movies already on your machine. And PPLive TV Engine. This is the main app you want to run. Unfortuently
with the new version they haven't ironed out the channel list in English yet within the actual application, however Babelfish
to the rescue, use the following link to translate the current 'what's on sports channels only' page.
PPLive Sports Channels Currently On Air
Channels to look for for Premiership coverage, are ESPN China or Hong Kong, Soccer Frequency Channel, Wuhan Sports,
Guanadong Sports, Shanghigh Sports & G-Sports. However please note these channels may not always be broadcasting, it's
best to look on the actual day of the match, especially at the weekend as lot's of channels tend to re-appear for then. NOTE:
ESPN Sports Essence is just a replay channel and does not show live coverage.
For a full Channel guide of what's currently
on air on pplive click this link:
PPlive Channel List
Also the beauty of launching a channel from the actual webpage means you don't have to use PPLive's customised version
of Media Player, it will launch the channel in tradional Media Player meaning you can easily resize the window to your own
choosing, aong with the PPLive TV Engine application which handles all your streaming buffers etc.
PPSTREAM
PPStream
is probably the better peer to peer application, however it's not as user friendly and doesn't carry as many channels that
carry Premiership footy. However it's very worthwhile to have this installed as many channels can appear just for matches
(and vanish just as quickly afterwards) At time of writing the latest version of PPStream is 1.0.0.98, get it here:
PPstream Download
Installation is pretty straightforward, once you've installed the app you can run it by double clicking the icon.
Sadly everything within the app is in Chinese and there is no option to change it to English, however help is at hand thanks
to an web version of the software which can be translated using our good friend Babelfish again. Also the web interface has
a habit of showing channels that are not always listed within the application itself, another big bonus especially has Hong
Kong versions of ESPN & Star Sports in English 'sometimes' have a nice habit of showing up on a Saturday afternoon. Great
if you want to watch a 3pm kick off with English commentary.
PPStream Web Portal In English (note this link MUST be viewed within Internet Explorer, it will not work in Netscape or Firefox, and PPStream must have
been installed already, also if you click a channel and get a page cannot be displayed message, make a note of how many people
are watching the channel and it's bitrate, load up the page properly: http://www.ppstream.com/tv/frame.htm look for the same amount or there abouts of connections and try again)
If you don't want to watch the program in the
ppstream application or webpage if you right click anywhere on the main frame and choose the 3rd down set of question marks,
this will force the coverage into Windows Media Player, which you can resize to your heart's content. However should you change
to another channel it's a good idea to take the tick away and give your new channel a chance to get a decent buffer, otherwise
media plaer will just attempt to play it straight away.
SOPCAST
Another nice programme, but can be temperamental,
not so many channels, and they seem to come and go even more so than pplive and ppstream, but watch out for the (test) channels
because they can sometimes show Canal+, Eurosport, Via-Sat Sport amongst others... Official Channels include the Phillipines
versions of ESPN and Star Sports, which never show 3pm football sadly, but if your lucky there is sometimes an evening Saturday
kick-off and the 4pm Sunday game, the added bonus is the commentary will be in English.
Another bonus is, that
the application and install is in English, so you shouldn´t have any problems, but like PPlive its best to go to the web page,
and click play on the channels there as again you'll probably find more channels that what is actually showing up in the application
iteself.
Sopcast Download (version 0.50 as of writing, when downloaded, just unzip to a folder somewhere and run the sopcast.exe file)
Sopcast Channels
TVKOO
A very new application that looks very nice with lots of channels and downloads at a FAST rate
(the fastest we've seen) there are not so many users yet, so some of the channels tend to expierence big lags, but the more
people that use this the better it will be, so get downloading.. Like Sopcast it carries Phillipines version's of ESPN &
Star Sports which never show 3pm football sadly, but if your lucky there is sometimes an evening Saturday kick-off and the
4pm Sunday game, the added bonus is the commentary will be in English.
tvkoo works from the .exe file you download
and doesn't require installation at all, so if you wanted you could just run/open the application from it's current location
to ensure you always are using the an upto date version, rather than downloading it and then running it.
TVKOO Download (the download is small but can be tempramental, if you get a 'not a valid win32 application' error your download was corrupt,
try again, if it downloads super quick the 2nd time it's still opening the cached version, within your Internet browser's
settings, delete all the temporary Internet files and try the download again)
QQLIVE
QQLive is also
fairly new, however it's user interface (in my opinion) is not very user friendly and is much more difficult to use than the
other applications, it's also difficult to watch a channel outside it's embedded version of Media Player. The quality of the
streams are also not that great, but they are usually quite stable once you get going. Worth having, as a backup plan if nothing
else. QQLicve is also meant to offer Dragon TV, which shows premiership matches. The current version at time of writing is
2.0 Beta 2
QQLive Download
Due to the heavy use of graphics on the QQlive site it's difficult to translate their site, but it would appear that
the graphics on the left are channels clicking one gives a description of what is currently on air and enables you to launch
the application from the site, much like the other applications.
